In Bhaktapur, there are numerous places to visit. 'Nawadurga' is the templeand one of the important cultural heritages. This temple is the temple of nine goddess. The word 'Nawadurga' is a Nepali word where 'nawa' means nine and 'durga' is one of the powerful goddess of Hindus. This temple is very much famous among people living there and living in the Kathmandu valley.
In this temple, one month long festival takes place during which people from different cities come to worship the goddess because people have deep faith in this god and think that their wishes are fulfilled. Besides, on the ninth day of Dashain, the greatest national festival of Nepal, a very unique event takes place. A he-buffalo is tamed in the temple for about a month. It is tamed in dark place where sunlight cant pass. On the particular day, it is made to drink a especial kind of drink due to which it gets intoxicated. Then it is released so that it runs blindly and people chase it very badly. It is chased to a temple named Brahmayani and is killed since it is regarded as a ghostly being. The buffalo is called 'Khame' in local language.
